According to a report on Boxofficeindia.com, Sunday’s estimated collections showed growth despite the cap on theatre occupancy and just 40% of the market in operation with Maharashtra shut and similar scenarios in the rest of the country.
The weekend business of the film is expected to be around Rs 13 crore nett. Despite the low numbers, the growth in numbers on Sunday hinted at the improving condition at the theatre windows.
All eyes are now on what numbers the film rakes in on Monday that will not only determine its fate at the box office but may also predict the success of other films slating up only theatrical releases.
Directed by Ranjit Tewari, Akshay Kumar essays the lead role in this spy thriller. Commenting on the risk of releasing ‘Bell Bottom’ amid several restrictions in India, Akshay had told PTI, “The pressure is there on everybody but I’m very sure that things are going to work out. There’s a challenge, a risk. But if you haven’t taken the risk in life, then what have you done? So we have gone with it. In this journey, I have my producers who have also taken the risk and that’s how we have proceeded.”
While talking about theatres being shut in Maharashtra, Akshay had added, “It is a gamble and someone had to take this gamble. We have taken this leap and I’m confident that this is going to work.”
‘Bell Bottom’ that also features Lara Dutta, Vaani Kapoor and Huma Qureshi in pivotal roles, was the first Bollywood film to be shot completely during the lockdown. The film was previously scheduled for a release in April but was postponed owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.
