Tollywood actor Raja Babu passed away on Sunday (October 24). He was 64. The senior actor was suffering from age-related illnesses for a while now.

Raja Babu, or Babai as he was fondly called, hailed from Narasapurapupeta near Ramachandrapuram in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district. He was born on June 13, 1957. He has been very interested in acting since childhood. Before landing roles in cinema, Raja Babu was a theatre artist who cast a spell on the Telugu audience. As a child, he travelled all over the country and played multiple roles. He forayed into the film industry with the 1981 film ‘Ooruki Monagadu,’ starring Krishna and Jaya Prada.

Some of his Telugu films include ‘Sindhooram,’ ‘Samudram,’ ‘Aadavari Matalaku Arthale Verule,’ ‘Murari,’ ‘Sreekaram,’ ‘Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu,’ ‘Kalyana Vaibhogame,’ ‘Malli Raava,’ ‘Brahmotsavam’ and ‘Bharat Ane Nenu.’ He has a prolific career spanning over four decades, during which he has acted in more than 64 films. Besides films, he also starred in many television series. He also entertained the television audience with serials like ‘Vasantha Kokila’, ‘Abhishekam’, ‘Radha Madhu’, ‘Manasu Mamata’, ‘Bangaru Kodalu’, ‘Bangaru Panjaram’, ‘Na Kodalu Bangaram’ and ‘Chi La Sow Sravanti’. His character in these serials had won his widespread praise.

Raja Babu won the state government’s Nandi Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2005 for his performance in the serial ‘Amma.’ Raja Babu, who looks serious on screen, is a very funny man in real life.
