The Marvel superhero film ‘Eternals‘ is giving Akshay Kumar‘s ‘Sooryavanshi‘ a tough fight at the box office!

According to the early estimates, both films stand neck-to-neck with advance booking collections estimated at around Rs 2 crore nett. A report on BoxofficeIndia.com states that although the ticket sales for Rohit Shetty‘s cop-drama has surpassed the Marvel film, the Hollywood release has made up on the number game, thanks to the high ticket rates.

The numbers are still, however, said to be low as the films were unable to have an unobstructed opening as the ‘Sooryavanshi’ makers are reportedly still negotiating release details with national theatre chains. While these talks are expected to conclude by Friday, it has still affected the advance of booking for both films.

While ‘Sooryavanshi’ is enjoying a wider release across the country, ‘Eternals’, although a big Hollywood release, will only have limited shows and fewer screens in multiplex chains. However, despite the limited shows, it has recorded “very good number” from the advance bookings.

The report further states that advance bookings for ‘Sooryavanshi’ are coming from places where the ticket prices are low and most of these cinemas are reopening after 18 months. The movement really picked up on Wednesday in Gujarat and UP, which is expected to see further growth on Friday.

While ‘Sooryavanshi’ box office numbers are expected to grow over the weekend, ‘Eternals’ will find it hard to double their revenue as their success depends on national chains opening up across the country.

The Akshay Kumar led cop-drama will see the star reuniting with Katrina Kaif and will also have extended cameos from Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn.

‘Eternals’, that has been directed by Oscar winner Chloe Zhao, features an ensemble cast of Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Don Lee, Lauren Ridloff, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Barry Keoghan and Kit Harington. It tells the story of an alien race with superhuman powers living on Earth in secret and helping shape the course of humanity for over 7,000 years. They are forced out of the shadows to protect mankind from their evil counterparts- the Deviants.
