Priyanka Chopra reveals people didn’t take her seriously in the west, says she didn’t carry the stardom she built in India – Times of India

Priyanka Chopra might be a global icon today but her journey in Hollywood has not been a bed of roses. It has taken a lot of hard work for the actress to reach where she is today.

Spilling some beans on the same, Priyanka stated that when she went to the US and started working, it was very hard for people to take her seriously. For her, it was difficult to convince people that she can play pivotal parts and lead roles as she didn’t carry the stardom that she had built in India. The actress revealed that she walked into every room as a new actor and demanded opportunities.

Elaborating further, PeeCee added that for people to develop confidence in you takes time. She has been working for almost seven years in Hollywood and now she feels very excited to be trusted with a movie like ‘The Matrix Resurrections.’

Priyanka also shed some light on the lack of opportunities in the global entertainment industry for South Asian actors. According to her, few South Asians like Mindy Kaling, Aziz Ansari, Hasan Minhaj and Riz Ahmed have pushed the envelope, where the door has been kicked open and they have demanded a seat on the table. She believes that although they have a long way to go, they have their foot at the door.

Meanwhile, on the Bollywood front, Priyanka will next be seen in Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Jee Le Zaraa’ where she will be seen sharing the screen space with Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles.
