Exclusive! Industry debates: Will ‘RRR’ box-office be hit by its delay? – Times of India

The postponement of ‘RRR‘ might be considered as big news but the fact is that it was a foregone conclusion, keeping in mind the new and dangerous surge in COVID-19 which could be the virus’ third strike. Gaiety-Galaxy Executive Director Manoj Desai is blunt as always and triggers off a debate, “Yeh toh hona hi tha. The box-office of ‘RRR’ will be hit 100 percent. What is also worrying me is that again a dry run looks likely in near future.”

Trade analyst Amod Mehra joins in to say that he has a hunch that if all gets well soon, ‘RRR’ might release on January 26 as a big holiday would be to its benefit. “But if the situation does not improve soon, Team ‘RRR’ which had built the hype to a very high level will have to build it all over again if they don’t want to lose on box-office.”

Exhibitor Akshaye Rathi however sits on the other side of the fence. Rathi says that ‘RRR’ team should not get flustered. “This film will rewrite history whenever it hits theatres. And I think it’s a wise decision to postpone it.” Trade analyst Taran Adarsh is on the same page with Rathi. “The numbers will in fact be higher because whenever it releases now, the cinema viewing will be safer and more conducive than what it is currently,” he remarks.

Adarsh, who was with Rajamouli in Chennai on December 29, further justifies his opinion. “The film will have a huge overseas market. Overseas too, the COVID scenario is presently not looking good. So why jump in and take a needless risk?” he asks.

Film-financer Narendra Hirawat’s take is on point, “Delay chhota hoga toh box-office affect nahi hoga.”
