The Hindi remake of Tamil blockbuster, ‘Soorarai Pottru’, has been in headlines for quite some time. There have been several reports suggesting Bollywood’s leading men like Ajay Devgn, Hrithik Roshan, John Abraham and Akshay Kumar were being considered to play the lead role.

Now as per the latest media reports, Akshay Kumar has finally been roped in to play the lead. The Bollywood star was reportedly in talks with the makers since last year and he had given his verbal nod but might have signed on the dotted line only recently. The Hindi version is likely to be set on North India backdrop while Sudha Kongara Prasad who helmed the original Tamil film will also direct the Bollywood remake. There are also reports that are suggesting Akshay will start shooting for this film after he wraps up the shoot of his recently announced film ‘Selfiee’ with Emraan Hashmi. ‘Selfiee’ is expected to hit the shooting floors in February.

‘Soorarai Pottru’ headlined by Suriya was largely based on the life of Air Deccan founder G R Gopinath, the aviation pilot who dreamed of making air travel an affordable option for the common man also. The inspirational biopic had shed light on many lesser-known stories of the ace businessman. Incidentally, the Tamil film had gone for a digital release in 2020 but received a massive response from cine buffs.

Meanwhile, Akshay will be shooting for five more films in 2022. Apart from ‘Selfiee’ and the ‘Soorarai Pottru’ remake, he has a London-based thriller in the pipeline. He will also share the screen with Tiger Shroff in Ali Abbas Zafar’s action-comedy, tentatively titled ‘Bade Miyaan Chhote Miyaan’. Camera will likely start rolling for Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan’s ‘Gorkha’ by the end of this year.
