Abhishek Kapoor on 9 Years of Kai Poche, working with Sushant Singh Rajput, Rajkummar Raor and Amit Sadh; Says, ‘the film leaves me numb’ – Times of India

Indian cinema has created masterpieces. One such film, which spoke about the importance of life, love and loss, was Abhishek Kapoor‘s Kai Po Che!’. The movie also marked Sushant Singh Rajput’s debut in Bollywood and also starred Rajkummar Rao and Amit Sadh in pivotal characters. The director recently revisited the film as it celebrated 9 years today.

In an interview with Indian Express, Abhishek shares that he feels that ‘the movie just happened yesterday’. He added that it was such a joy to make it and the fact that it’s been nine years, people are still talking about it. When asked about the challenges in bringing the entire movie to life, Abhishek says translating the film’s multiple subplots and historical events on screen, was a challenge.

Elaborating further, Abhishek says, it wasn’t an easy movie, since it was shot in Gujarat at the peak of summer, in 50 degrees, it was painful – people used to faint on camera, and along with that shooting riots sequences and bringing everything to life was difficult.

Abhishek also added that one thing which was ‘consistent like a thread through every crew member was the excitement. Recollecting the moments, he shared that every team member was on the same creative trajectory.

When asked about the casting, Abhishek revealed that they did try to have big names initially, but the film wasn’t written that way. Hence, the only logical step was to find new people, and since he had done the same with ‘Rock On’ with Farhan Akhtar, he knew he had a good sense of working with new people as long as he felt the connection with them.
