Yami Gautam Dhar on her take on female-oriented films; hopes the team isn’t new to us anymore – Times of India

Yami Gautam Dhar is excited to have entered an interesting phase of her career. The actress has been a part of content-driven films like Vicky Donor, Badlapur, Kaabil and Uri: The Surgical Strike. But it was her role as the social media influencer Pari in Bala that truly put her in the spotlight and had her headlining projects that gave her an opportunity to sink her teeth into some meaty characters. Like, her last release A Thursday, that had her playing the role of a teacher who held her kindergarten school students as hostages.

Yami says, “I am grateful to have got these fabulous projects. I have been waiting for too long to bag such roles because some of these, I know for a fact, are very special projects. I am saying this not because I am playing the lead or these are female-oriented films. These are stories where an actress is leading the film, and that’s it. I feel we have these terms like ‘female-oriented films’ even now because it is still new for us. I hope we reach a point where this is not new to us anymore. I look at these as projects where a character is leading the films (and not an actress).”

This year, Yami will be seen in Dasvi, where she plays an IPS officer and OMG 2 starring Akshay Kumar. Talking about her career choices, Yami says, “I am glad it came to a point where I got such roles and scripts and got an opportunity to work with certain directors who believed that I could pull off these respective characters. The whole idea is that you pick up projects that your heart prompts you to and not because, as actors, you are expected to do certain films or certain genres. For me, it has been a very gradual journey in showbiz where I have been at it very patiently.”
