The Kashmir Files: IMDB detects ‘unusual voting activity’ and applies alternate rating; director Vivek Agnihotri calls it ‘unethical’ – Times of India


Director Vivek Agnihotri‘s ‘The Kashmir Files‘ that released on Friday, has been receiving a lot of love from the audience and the proof’s in the box office numbers. The film saw a huge Rs 14 crore growth in collections at the box office on Sunday which could set it up for an impressive Rs 26 crore nett weekend collection.

Besides raking in the big bucks, the film has been winning praise from fans and celebrities, including Akshay Kumar, Kangana Ranaut, Parineeti Chopra, R Madhavan, Paresh Rawal among others. Interestingly, the film’s IMDb rating saw a minor setback after the site detected ‘unusual voting activity’.

A fan tweeted to the director saying, “The IMDb page of #TheKashmirFiles says: “Our rating mechanism has detected unusual voting activity on this title. To preserve the reliability of our rating system, an alternate weighting calculation has been applied”. They have themselves dipped the ratings.”

The page states that the film received around 131,433 votes and owing to the ‘unusual’ activity, gave the film an average rating of 8.3 / 10.

Reacting to the same, the director cried foul and said, “THIS IS UNUSUAL AND UNETHICAL.”

Written and directed by Agnihotri, the film depicts the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from Kashmir following systematic killings of people from the community by Pakistan-backed terrorists.

It stars Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi among others.

On Sunday, states including Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Haryana governments declared ‘The Kashmir Files’ as tax-free.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai shared, “To lend our support to the movie & encourage our people to watch it, we will make the movie tax-free.”

Going by tweets being shared by the director, the film is receiving a good turnout in the international circuits as well.
