Ishita Dutta: I was actually in shock when Vatsal Sheth asked me to marry him; I took a moment to answer – Times of India

Ishita Dutta, who is happily married to actor Vatsal Sheth for about five years now, opened up about how love blossomed between them. The ‘Drishyam’ actress also spilled the beans on the best and worst parts of being a celebrity and how she deals with social media trolls, in an exclusive interview with ETimes. Read on…

You have been married to Vatsal Sheth for five years now. How and when did love blossom between you two?
With Vatsal, it was definitely not love at first sight. We were just friends. I liked him as a person when we first met. That is how our relationship as friends grew. We kept in touch with each other even after our show got over. Soon we realised that we sort of liked each other. That was a very simple love story, nothing different or unique. Within six months, we got married. I cannot pinpoint when the love exactly blossomed between us. I think it was a gradual process.

What was that moment when you realised you want to spend the rest of your life with him?
The moment was when he asked me if I wanted to get married to him. Honestly, we had never discussed where our relationship was headed or what was going to happen. We had just started dating. He popped the question to me very early in our relationship. I hadn’t even given a proper thought to it. I was actually in shock when he asked. I took a moment to answer and that was the moment when I realised I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him.

How did he propose?
We were just having a casual dinner. After dinner, we were just chit-chatting. Suddenly Vatsal popped the question. There was no going down on the knees. It was very normal. But that question made that normal dinner date very special. Everything just changed after that day.

What according to you is the best and worst part of being a celebrity?
The only worst part that I can think about is when celebrities want some privacy, which is not exactly possible sometimes. Anything that happens in their life, the world wants to know. I think it comes with the package. It is a part of the profession we are in. Most celebrities have made peace with it now. That is the only thing otherwise you get so much love from your fans. You get fame.

How do you deal with negativity and trolls on social media?
I would be lying if I say social media trolls don’t affect me. However, to be honest, people have been a little kind to me. I have seen bad comments from people on social media and it is very upsetting and sad. Nobody has the right to say anything mean to anybody. This does not happen with only celebrities alone. It happens with normal people too. I have friends who also go through the same thing and they are not related to the glam industry at all.

While on one hand social media gives you a platform to connect with your fans and loved ones, it has also given an opportunity for trolls to say nasty things to you. There are days when it affects me but mostly I choose to ignore them. I feel people who are going through something terrible in their own life would come and say something horrible to others. For them, it is just an outlet to take out their frustration. So it is not about you, it is about them.
