As the film gets set for its May 6 debut, it has been reported that the superhero film has already crossed the Rs 20 crore mark in advance booking collections. Shortly after a report in Box Office India stated that the film crossed Rs 10 crore worth of sales prior to its release, the latest reports indicate that the movie has earned an estimated Rs 20-crore nett for the weekend.
Besides the huge advance bookings, the Hollywood movie was the first to open its ticket windows a month in advance, something which the Indian box office has never seen before.
Ticket sales for ‘Multiverse Of Madness’ went into overdrive over the weekend and showed brisk sales over Saturday and Sunday.
The film is expected to take a huge opening in the South circuits as well. The Andhra, Mysore and Tamil Nadu sectors are expected to collect an estimated Rs 3-4 crore nett each to the early weekend numbers.
While the film is off to a good start, it remains to be seen if it can outperform Tom Holland‘s ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ which collected an estimated Rs 33 crore nett last year. It must also be noted that ‘Spider-Man‘ had a huge fan following in the country, as compared to Doctor Strange.
Despite the superhero not ranking high on the popularity charts in India, trade experts predict a Rs 30 crore opening day collection, with big numbers coming in from multiplexes.
‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness‘ will see Benedict Cumberbatch return as the Sorcerer Supreme with Elizabeth Olsen as Wana Maximoff, aka the Scarlett Witch. Also starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stühlbarg, and Rachel McAdams, the film is directed by Sam Raimi.
The film has been set up for a wide release in India and will be available in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
