Dave Bautista bids emotional goodbye to his character Drax the Destroyer after wrapping up ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ – Times of India

Dave Bautista is hanging up his knives as his Marvel superhero film ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3′ comes to an end.

In an Instagram post, Bautista bid his much-loved character, Drax the Destroyer, an emotional goodbye. Sharing a photo of himself with director James Gunn and his castmates, Dave shared that he barely had time to process the end of filming before he was already onto his next project. But, he admits that signing on the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy franchise’ “changed my life.”

“Haven’t found the words yet. It ended so suddenly and I was on to my next film before I could process it all. End of a journey that changed my life,” Bautista wrote.

Dave was first introduced as the character Drax in the 2014 film ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, written and directed by Gunn. He reprised his role in 2017’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, and ‘Avengers: Endgame’. After his appearance in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ and the Guardian’s holiday special, next year’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ is expected to be the last time Bautista plays the character.

Filmmaker James Gunn cast members Karen Gillian, Pom Klementieff and many others also took to their handles to mark the conclusion of the film’s shoot. Gunn announced that he’d wrapped principal photography, and also teased that the Marvel film will feature an appearance from an as-yet “unannounced actor”.

“And that’s a picture wrap on the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy,” he wrote.

“I love this amazing cast & crew & their beautiful talent & kind souls. I’m a lucky human to have them on the journey with me for nearly a decade.”

While Zoe Saldana, who played Thanos’ adopted daughter Gamora in all three films, wasn’t pictured, Gunn was quick to note that the actress was, in fact, on-site for the wrap celebration.

“And yes Zoe was with us… but the only picture I have with her has an unannounced actor with us!”

While the superhero pic’s plot has been kept under wraps, past instalments have followed the half-human, half-alien Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Pratt) and his gang of intergalactic criminals as they’ve looked to fend off various threats to their universe.

Vol. 3 will be the third and final in Gunn’s series of the Guardians films, with Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sylvester Stallone and Will Poulter also set to star.

Production on the upcoming film produced by Kevin Feige kicked off in November 2021.

The first two films in the series, 2014’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and 2017’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’, collectively grossed more than $1.6 billion worldwide.

The third instalment is slated to open on May 5, 2023, against ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’.
