Sonu Nigam to perform live in Kolkata, won’t cancel concert despite KK tragedy – Exclusive! – Times of India

KK’s tragic demise has once again brought the spotlight on the stress performers handle while doing live shows in overcrowded venues. The mismanagement at Nazrul Mancha concert pointed toward the vulnerability of artists during performances. After the KK fiasco, the buzz is strong that artists from other states are skeptical about doing live shows in Kolkata amid the security concern. Singers like Stebin Ben, Armaan Malik and a few others have said that the organisers should ensure an artist’s comfort during these gigs.

However, amid all these security concerns and uncertainty over big shows in the coming months show organizers in Kolkata are confident that things will improve soon and Kolkata can’t be sidelined for just one incident. Event organizer Tochan Ghosh who brought KK to Kolkata says artists’ security and wellbeing have always been Kolkata’s top priority. And now, according to a close source, despite all the negative talks about Kolkata Sonu Nigam has decided to go on with his Kolkata concert in July. The celebrated singer has already had initial talks with Tochan.

“Yes, we had initial talks with Sonu Nigam. He’s ready to perform in Kolkata and if everything goes according to plan, we will see him performing live in Kolkata in July. Those who are spreading rumours that Kolkata is not safe for artists will have their answer when Sonu performs live here,” said an optimistic Tochan.

At the same time, he wants to point out certain incidents during live shows in other metro cities which show Kolkata is much safer for artists. “If I remember correctly recently in Bengaluru there was an incident wherein Kannada singer Warrier broke his leg due to the mismanagement during his live gig. There was a huge hole in front of the stage. Have you ever heard any outside artist complaining about any physical harassment from the audience? Such an incident happened in Chandigarh recently when Mika Singh almost felt suffocated because of the overcrowded venue. These things are part and parcel of any big concert. In Kolkata, we look after the security of singers with utmost priority,” adds Tochan Ghosh who is now looking forward to more live shows in the city after the KK fiasco.

No matter what the organisers say KK’s demise has raised an important question about the basic necessity that organisers or event managers have to keep in mind for an artist during gigs.
