Saira Banu speaks: “Dilip Kumar film festival is great but I would’ve been happier to see ‘Ganga Jumna’, Mughal-E-Azam and ‘Andaz’ included”- Exclusive – Times of India

It’s all happening at the PVR chain of cinemas in India and each one of us should be proud of this. It is Dilip Kumar‘s birthday and he would have been 100 today if he had been alive. Dilip Kumar’s four films- ‘Aan’, ‘Ram Aur Shyam’, ‘Devdas’ and ‘Shakti’- are going to be screened today and tomorrow. Talking exclusively to ETimes, Dilip Kumar’s wife Saira Banu says, “Everyone loved him and he always gave lovely films to his fans; think of it, his body of work is unparalleled.”

Talking about the Dilip Kumar film festival, Saira Banu said that she was very happy that such an occasion was happening. “We need to understand the importance of restoring our old films. Thanks to Shivin Dungarpur, the gentleman who made this happen in memory of my husband.”

Saira Banu further said that the festival could have been longer. “I would have been happier if they were also showing ‘Ganga Jumna’, ‘Mughal-E-Azam’ and ‘Andaz’. I have a particular fondness for ‘Ganga Jumna’.”

“There should be a film festival for other greats too- like Raj Kapoor, Dharmendra and others. I am pained that we have lost a lot of films from the old times and the destruction of the RK Studio only added to the sadness,” Saira Banu added.
