Director Vivek Agnihotri has shared his thoughts about filmmaker Ashoke Pandit and Screenwriter Saeed Akhtar Mirza’s comments about his film, ‘The Kashmir Files’.

Pandit, in a Twitter post, defended the film saying, “If abusing & trolling @vivekagnihotri was right & hence the entire industry kept quiet, then automatically trolling & stupid comments against #Pathaan become valid.”

Asking Twitterati not to be ‘selective’ in their response, he said, “If attack on #KashmirFiles was wrong, then the same applies to #Pathaan. Let’s not be selective with our responses!”

Recalling the time he lent his support to films like Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Udta Punjab’ and Deepika Padukone‘s ‘Padmaavat’, he said, “Our silence at certain moments because it suits an agenda makes our enemies stronger. I stood by all those films like #UdtaPunjab & #Padmaavat which were abused by fundamentalists but saw no support by the industry. Enemies hv misused this division between different camps.”

Replying to his tweet, Vivek commented, “Hmmmmm…”

Early this morning, Agnihotri also reacted to screenwriter Saeed Akhtar Mirza calling his film ‘garbage’. In an interview with a news portal, Saeed called out the film for ‘taking sides’. He explained that his comments were reserved for the film and that not the issues of the Kashmiri Pandits or the Muslims of the Valley who ‘are caught in an incredibly vulgar trap of the machinations of intelligence agencies’.

He said, “Is the Kashmiri Pandit issue garbage? No, it’s not. It’s real. Is it just Kashmiri Hindus? No. Muslims, too, are caught in an incredibly vulgar trap of the machinations of intelligence agencies, nations with so-called national interests, and paid guys from across the border, who continue to create havoc. The point is not to take sides. Be human and try to understand.”

Reacting to the ETimes article, Vivek wrote, “Maine kaha Mirza sahab ko Salaam. Fir milte hain Janaab, #TheDelhiFiles ke baad. 2024.”

He added, “I never wanted to say this but I think it’s time to speak the HARSH TRUTH: All their lives they made films on Muslim victimhood. Only India has a genre called ‘Muslim Social’. Hindus made these people rich & famous. Yet, ungrateful Bollywood has zero empathy towards Hindus.”

Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s film ‘Pathaan’ has been courting controversy since the release of the song Besharam Rang. The track was criticised by a few politicians who took objection to the colour of one of Deepika’s outfits. Besides wearing many bright-coloured yellow, gold, and green bikinis, some people objected to the actress donning a bright orange bikini. Some even went as far as filing an FIR against the ‘Pathaan’ team for allegedly ‘hurting Hindu sentiments’.
