Trial By Fire trailer: Abhay Deol and Rajshri Deshpande relive the horror of the Uphaar Cinema fire – Times of India


One of the worst fire tragedies in the history of the country, The Uphaar Cinema fire started on Friday, June 13, 1997 at Uphaar Cinema in Green Park Delhi, during the three o’ clock screening of the movie Border. According to reports, around 59 people died of asphyxiation while being trapped inside, while 103 were seriously injured as a result of the mad stampede that took place.

Recently, actor Abhay Deol took to his IG handle to share the trailer of the upcoming web series Trial By Fire, based on the heartbreaking tragedy. Abhay plays Shekhar Krishnamoorthy, who along with his wife Neelam (played by Rajshri Deshpande), loses both his kids in the fire and then fights tooth and nail for justice, an ordeal that lasts well beyond 18 years.

Sharing the trailer, Abhay wrote, “The trailer is here! 13 June, 1997 altered the lives of hundreds of families. #TrialByFire traces the story of parents, Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy, who alongside other families have fought for justice. Catch their story in #TrialByFire, releasing January 13 only on @netflix_in”.

Earlier, the Raanjhanaa actor had put up a post, revealing that this was his ‘hardest role to play’. Sharing a poster of the series, he wrote, “Possibly the hardest role I’ve ever had to portray. I’ve done true stories before but this one has to be the most tragic. A fire that left a trail of tragedies in its wake. Tragedies Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy had to deal with over the two plus decades. Follow their journey in #TrialByFire, trailer out tomorrow only on @netflix_in”.

Trial By Fire will start streaming on Netflix from January 13.
