When Arbaaz asked if she was a too big star to ignore Salim, Helen said, “I didn’t (notice Salim Khan), not because of being a star, but because I was very to myself. One day, he asked Ajit saab ‘yeh madam kisi ko dekhte bhi nahi, wish bhi nahi karte. So he said ‘pucho mat, yeh sab logo ko furniture ke jaise dikhti hain.”
Many years later, Helen noticed Salim when she was watching their film Teesri Manzil (1966) where the veteran screenwriter played drums in one of the scenes. “That drum scene was taken separately, I wasn’t even on the set when it was taken. So when I saw it (on the big screen), I saw him. And he was looking very good then,” she said.
In the same interview, Helen also recalled the time when Dharmendra was shocked to see her name on Salim and Salma’s daughter Alvira Khan’s wedding invite. “(When) Alvira was getting married and you all had a wedding invitation card printed and in that card he said ‘Salim Khan, Salma Khan, Helen Khan and children invite you… And he took it to Dharmendra ji and Dharmendra ji was shocked to see ki mera naam bhi add kiya hai,” she said.
Helen tied the knot with Salim Khan in 1980 when the latter was already married to Salma Khan since 1964 and had three sons Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan. They also have two daughters Alvira Khan and Arpita Khan.
