ETimes Troll Slayer: All those trolling Deepika Padukone’s Muslim portrayal in ‘Pathaan’ need to stop religious policing – Times of India

[ad_1]

Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Pathaan’ released on OTT last week and nitpickers were quick to get fussy over the film. Deleted scenes from the original theatrical release were added to this blockbuster but instead of praise, trolls could only look for negativity.
Deepika was trolled for mispronouncing ‘Assalamualaikum’, an Islamic greeting. While the actress is seen greeting her co-star SRK with the phrase ‘Salamalekum’, netizens opined that it should actually be ‘Assalamualaikum’.

Take a look at some of the jabs Deepika faced and our response to the same.
“I don’t get it, she played a muslim in this movie and the only muslim thing she had to do was say the salam properly and didn’t”

1

Why blame it squarely on the actress only, she was acting on director, writer’s instructions and may not have faltered at all. Because ‘Assalamualaikum’ and ‘Salamalekum’ are both acceptable forms of greetings… so we request you take this negativity elsewhere.

“Not srk being Muslim but still butchering the Pronounciation of such a classic Islamic phrase”

2

How about you refrain from butchering the spelling of ‘Pronunciation’? With due respect to religion, why not concentrate on the emotion and intention of the moment, rather than trying to nitpick on the pronunciation.

“Bollywood should ask from Muslims how to pay Salam it’s not Salam Alaikum it’s Asalam O Alikum”

3

Instead of getting infuriated and making it a religious issue, why not appreciate what Bollywood has to offer in terms of representation and inclusivity? Besides, Deepika may not have intentionally hurt your religious emotions. There’s a better, more coordial way to approach this rather than demeaning all of Bollywood.
