At least 207 people were killed and 900 injured when two passenger trains collided in Odisha on Friday in one of India’s worst rail accidents in years.
Expressing distress over the train accident, several Bollywood stars took to their social media handles to offer their condolences to the families of the deceased passengers and to also pray for the injured. Everyone from Salman Khan to Akshay Kumar, Jr NTR to Kareena Kapoor Khan, Varun Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Sonu Sood, among others, took to their handles to offer their prayers and condolences.
Salman wrote in a tweet, “Really saddened to hear abt the accident, May God rest the souls of the deceased in peace, Protect n give strength to the families n the injured from this unfortunate accident.”
Akshay Kumar took to his handle to write, “Heartbreaking to see the visuals from the tragic train accident in Odisha. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. My thoughts and condolences to the families of the affected during this difficult time. Om Shanti”
Kareena, Sonu and Varun took to their Instagram stories to share photos of the tragic accident and added an update.

Rescuers waded through piles of debris and wreckage to pull out bodies and free people on Saturday after two passenger trains derailed. Photos and videos doing the rounds online see rescue teams climbing atop the wrecked trains to break open doors and windows using cutting torches to free survivors who were trapped inside more than a dozen mangled rail cars.
A third train carrying freight was also involved, PTI reported, but there was no immediate confirmation of that from railroad authorities. It was reported that some of the derailed passenger coaches hit cars from the freight train.
The death toll rose steadily throughout the night as footage showed scores of dead bodies, covered by white sheets, lay on the ground near the train tracks as locals and rescuers raced to help survivors.
Officials said 1,200 rescuers worked with 115 ambulances, 50 buses and 45 mobile health units through the night at the accident site. Saturday was declared as a day of mourning in Odisha as the state’s chief minister, Naveen Patnaik, reached the district to meet injured passengers.
Villagers said they rushed to the site to evacuate people after hearing a loud sound created by the train coaches going off the tracks.
