Alia Bhatt’s stand on gender equality draws flak on the internet: ‘what is she even saying’ | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Bollywood stars invariably come under fire for the comments they make, especially if it is on any social issue. Alia Bhatt, who was recently announced as the first Indian global ambassador of a luxury fashion brand, shared her two cents on gender equality as part of the campaign.

In a video shared online, Alia could be heard saying, “If she is empowered, if she is productive within herself, she will be productive at home for her children, for the community, for the country. That has ripple effects on everyone connected to the woman. My name is Alia Bhatt and I chime with the women in India.” However, well meaning as it might be, Alia’s comments drew a lot of flak on social media with netizens saying they could not wrap their heads around what she was saying.
Many users made their disdain with the Darlings actor quite clear. One user wrote, “So we should empower women not because they have the right but so that they can serve the society and family, nice.” Another comment read, “Exactly… so she can be a ‘productive mother and a productive citizen’…” “What is she even saying?!” asked a user. “I couldn’t get it either,” added another.
Another user was far more brutal. The comment read, “So I gotta be productive to be important. Alia reminds me sooo much of Deepika here. Just talking gibberish that isn’t even worth cr*p.”

Alia will soon be seen in Karan Johar‘s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaaniopposite Ranveer Singh.
