In a hilarious 4.52-minute ‘Barbie’-themed skit, the comedian, set to host his fourth show, didn’t hold back on the jibes at the voting committee for their controversial snubs, which included leaving out Greta Gerwig in the Best Director category and Margot Robbie in the Best Actress category.
To help him roast the Academy, his celebrity friends, and ‘Barbie’ cast members Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera, Ryan Gosling & Helen Mirren, all reprised their roles in the film.
Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera & Ryan Gosling Help Jimmy Kimmel Get to the Oscars
“I’m hosting the #Oscars on March 10th. If we make it in time…” Kimmel wrote as he posted the clip online. The video shows him in his tux, lost in Barbieland, until he reaches Kate’s Weird Barbie’s house. There, she offers to help him reach the show and takes him across land, air, and sea, where they come across Oscar nominees like Emma Stone in a ‘Poor Things’ setting, Robert De Niro and Lily Gladstone in a colourful ‘Killers Of The Flower Moon’ set, Bradley Cooper’s ‘Maestro,’ and even a drive through Cillian Murphy and Matt Damon‘s ‘Oppenheimer’ test site.
Upon reaching the Oscars, Kimmel shares his fears about hosting the show, when Best Supporting Actress nominee America steps out to give a revamped version of her emotional Barbie monologue. “It’s literally impossible to host the Oscars; you have to be extraordinary, but somehow you are always doing it wrong,” she says in her moving speech that concludes with her saying, “If it goes well, no one says anything, but if it doesn’t, it’s your fault.”
Ryan comes in last, bringing with him his ‘Kenery’ and his tie-dye hoodie with the words ‘I’m Kenough’ on it. The actor, up for the Best Supporting Actor nominee, humorously accepts defeat (to Robert Downey Jr, also nominated in the same category) and pins his hope on Greta Gerwig’s Best Director win to eat burgers from In-n-Out post the ceremony. The promo ends with Helen Mirren as the narrator saying, “Girls grow into women, but not all boys grow into men. Some remain hopelessly stuck in a loop of infantile foolishness. One of them will host the Oscars.”
The Oscars will be held on March 10 and will have an early telecast at 7 pm on ABC.
