Raj Kundra pornography case: Mumbai Police forms a Special Investigation Team – Times of India

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed by the Mumbai Crime Branch to probe the porn racket case involving Raj Kundra and several others. According to Mirror Now, an officer of the ACP rank will be heading the case and the newly formed SIT will look into all the FIRs filed in the pornography case. Only July 19, Raj Kundra, who is married to Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, was arrested by Mumbai Police for alleged production and distribution of pornographic content through a mobile app. Raj Kundra’s jail term was extended after his bail hearing was deferred till August 20.

Raj Kundra’s lawyer had termed the businessman’s arrest as ‘illegal’. However, public prosecutor Aruna Pai had informed the Bombay High Court that the real reason for Raj Kundra’s arrest was that he had started deleting WhatsApp groups and chats, thus ‘destroying evidence’. Recently, a director from one of Raj Kundra’s companies was also arrested in connection to the pornography case. Abhijeet Bomble, a director of one of Kundra’s firms, was arrested by the Mumbai police’s crime branch, said an official.

After a long time Shilpa Shetty broke her silence on the controversial case and issued a statement on social media. The actress expressed her faith in the Mumbai Police and urged everyone to respect their privacy for the sake of their children. “Yes! The past few days have been challenging, on every front. There have been a lot of rumours and accusations. A lot of unwarranted aspersions on me cast by the media and (not so) well wishers as well. A lot of trolling/questions posed… not only to me but also to my family. MY STAND… I HAVE NOT COMMENTED YET and will continue to refrain from doing so on this case as it is subjudice, so please stop attributing false quotes on my behalf. Reiterating my philosophy of, as a celebrity “Never complain, never explain”. All I will say is, as it’s an on-going investigation, I have full faith in the Mumbai Police & the Indian judiciary. As a family, we are taking recourse to all our available legal remedies. But, till then I humbly request you – especially as a MOTHER – to respect our privacy for my children’s sake and request you to refrain from commenting on half-baked information without verifying the veracity of the same. I am a proud law-abiding Indian citizen and a hardworking professional for the last 29 years. People have put their faith in ME & I’ve never let anyone down. So, most importantly, I request you to respect my family’s and ‘my right’ to privacy in these times. We don’t deserve a media trial. Please let the law take its course. Satyamev Jayate
