Amit Kumar: Nobody has the right to make a film on Kishore da – Exclusive! – Times of India

In his characteristic, no-nonsense manner, Amit Kumar has shot down any speculation around his father, Kishore Kumar’s biopic. When ETimes reached out to him recently, and mentioned that filmmaker Anurag Basu had revealed in a recent interview that he wanted to see the biopic made as soon as possible, Amit gave a stern answer and said, “First of all nobody has the right to make a film on Kishore Da. The family is going to write the script and thirdly it is going to take a year, then we will decide the casting director for it.”

When we reminded Amit that Anurag Basu had said in the past that he was planning to make the film, he reacted and said, “Anurag Basu or any Tom Dick and Harry can say anything, it does not mean anything to us. The family takes the decision and we will decide who will direct and we will produce the film and may direct it, too.’’

When coaxed a little more about which actor could play Kishore Kumar in the biopic, the singer said, “We have not decided on who will play and cannot talk about it right now.”

It may be noted here that actor Ranbir Kapoor was to play the title role in the film that Anurag Basu had planned on Kishore Kumar’s life and times. But with the Ganguly family taking this firm stand, one wonders what will become of Anurag Basu’s plan on the biopic. Watch this space for more.
