“Shout-out to the real ones who are watching the trailer for the first time right now,” Tweeted the official handle of the film, following the trailer leak on Monday.
The film picks up after the events of ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ that saw the young Peter Parker (Tom Holland) takedown Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal), but at the cost of his identity being revealed to all. In a bid to clean up the slate and start again, he seeks help from Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), who casts a spell to erase people’s memories of Peter, but in turn, opens up the multiverse.
“The problem is you trying to live two different lives. The longer you do it, the more dangerous it becomes. Be careful what you wish for, Parker,” Strange says in a voice-over.
The clip does reintroduce Alfred Molina as the villain, Doctor Otto Octavius and has him narrating his famous line, “Hello, Peter.”
It also teases the return of supervillains Electro, played by Jamie Fox and the Green Goblin, played by Willem Dafoe.
The film’s description reads, ‘for the first time in the Marvel cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighbourhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a superhero. When he asks Doctor Strange for help, the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man’.
‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ will also star Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Tony Revolori and Jacob Batalon – most of the supporting cast from the previous movies. It is rumoured to also see the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their respective Spider-Men in the film that will reportedly set the ball rolling for the ‘Doctor Strange’ sequel ‘Doctor Strange into the Multiverse of Madness’.
The film is currently scheduled to release on 17 December 2021.
