Deepika Padukone to play Draupadi in adaptation of Chitra B Divakaruni’s book ‘The Last Queen’, reveals author Anuja Chandramouli at Times Litfest – Times of India

Deepika Padukone has some interesting projects in her kitty. After wrapping the shoot of Shakun Batra‘s untitled film, the actress reportedly resumed shoot for Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Pathan‘. As part of the ongoing Times Litfest, fantasy and historical fiction author Anuja Chandramouli opened up about the movie to be made on Rani Jindan’s book. In a session at the Times Litfest, Anuja revealed that Deepika will play the role of Draupadi in the adaptation of Chitra B Divakaruni’s book ‘The Last Queen‘.

The makers are still looking for a star who will play the lead role of Rani Jindan Kaur. Other details about the projects are kept under wraps for now. When the author was quizzed about having anyone in mind for playing Rani Jindan, she asserted, ”First of all I’m so excited! What’s exciting is that they bought the rights for the book even before the book came out; they managed to get a partial manuscript and loved it so much. I felt so happy about that! That was like a big impetus to even put more into this book.”

She further added, ”I’m really very open. Now i think there are so many wonderful, new actors, actresses coming up. So I’m very open to whoever the director decides. I’m just hoping that they’ll find someone who can really give life to this wonderful, nuanced, brave, indomitable, passionate woman who is Maharani Jinda who has so much to teach us. And who can inspire us in so many ways, so let’s keep our fingers crossed for that to happen.”
