‘Thalaivii’ box office collection day 1: Kangana Ranaut starrer film mints Rs 1.25 crore on its opening day – Times of India


Kangana Ranaut starrer ‘Thalaivii‘ released yesterday. The film is a biographical drama based on the life of late Indian actress turned politician J.Jayalalithaa, the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. According to boxofficeindia.com, the all India business of the film is around Rs 1.25 crore.

The report further suggested that the film had a low opening day as it grossed around 20-25 lakhs net on day 1 in the Hindi circuits without a release in the national chains. The all India business of the film is better at around 1.25 crore net. The business picked up in Tamil Nadu and collected in the 80 lakh net range. The film could not do much in Andhra Pradesh as the local film ‘Seetimaarr‘ ruled the market.

Apart from Kangana, the film stars Arvind Swami as M.G. Ramachandran. It is being shot simultaneously in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu, it is helmed by A.L. Vijay and is written by K.V. Vijayendra Prasad, Madhan Karky (Tamil), and Rajat Arora (Hindi).

In a recent interaction, Kangana opened up about joining politics. ”This movie might not be released in Hindi in multiplexes and multiplexes have always tried to bully the producers. And they are the same. I am a nationalist and I speak for the country not because I am a politician but as a responsible citizen. And as far as entering politics is concerned, I might need a lot of support from the public but right now I am happy to be an actress. But if tomorrow people like me and support me, then definitely I would love to”, she told IANS.
