
Directed by AL Vijay, ‘Thalaivii’ is a biopic on late J Jayalalithaa and has earned around Rs 1 crore nett in Hindi in three days –25 lakhs nett on Friday, 30 lakhs nett on Saturday and 45 lakhs nett on Sunday. ‘Thalaivii’ earned its best performance from the Tamil version as the film earned around Rs 2.75 crore nett in Tamil Nadu and 50 lakhs in other circuits, mainly Bangalore. Kangana Ranaut’s film earned Rs 1 crore nett in Chennai. Circuits like Nizam/Andhra contributed around 50 lakhs to the film’s box office collection. In totality, ‘Thalaivii’ earned Rs 4.75 crore in three days.
Interestingly, veteran actress Simi Garewal had recently revealed how Jayalalithaa wanted Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to play her role in a biopic. After attending the screening of ‘Thalaivii’, Simi shared on Twitter, “Altho I do not support #KanganaRanaut’s radical comments..I do support her acting talent. In #Thailavii she gives it her heart & soul! Jaya-ji wanted Aishwarya to play her..my hunch is JJ wud hv approved of Kangana’s portrayal👍. As for @thearvindswamy he is MGR reincarnate!!” Apart from Kangana, ‘Thalaivii’ also stars Madhoo, Prakash Raj, Jisshu Sengupta, Bhagyashree, and Poorna in key roles.
