Exclusive! Chitrangda Singh: Filmmakers don’t have to wait for big stars today, there is a huge pool of talent available – Times of India

In 2018, Chitrangda Singh explored a different facet of filmmaking when she turned producer with the Diljit Dosanjh-starrer Soorma. As she wears the producer’s hat, she’s pleased to see the change in the industry. The Baazaar actress feels that new, talented actors have come into the spotlight in the last few years. She says, “We have come across a new breed of actors through the OTT space. Through social media, too, filmmakers were able to discover such interesting faces. Even in the smallest of roles, artistes have left the audience impressed with their performances. I am sure that filmmakers are happy with this, as in today’s times you don’t have to wait for big stars to give you dates. It is possible to make interesting content with the new bunch of actors. There’s a lot more scope today as the focus has shifted to content and performances where the audience is talking about writers, their storytelling skills and the screenplay.”

She further adds, “With easy access to world cinema and content through the OTT , one gets a broader perspective. It is beautiful to see how international artistes perform certain emotions and play out a scene. Our languages might be different, but emotions are the same, so it is really interesting to see the difference between how they enact a

particular sequence and how we do it.”

Even though she’s a hands-on producer, Chitrangda is also looking for some interesting acting ventures. Though she made her acting debut in 2005, she has had a limited number of films in her repertoire. Ask her if she wants to be a part of more films in a year, and the actress says, “Everybody has their own journey and their own level of ambition. It’s a very personal thing. I did what came my way, and maybe, I didn’t run after projects. There were times when some projects slipped from my hands. Limited work doesn’t mean you aren’t ambitious. I am passionate about cinema, which is why I am not just acting, but also writing scripts and producing movies.”
