In a throwback interview with a news publication, she revealed that Mangeshkars don’t like to talk about it as it was one of the terrible phases in their lives. The legendary singer had recalled that in 1963, she had started feeling very sick and could barely get up from her bed. It came to a point where she couldn’t even move on her own.
Elaborating further, she had shared that it was confirmed that she was being poisoned slowly. It took her about three months to recover and get back behind the microphone. Lata also went on to clarify that, unlike the reports that did the rounds during that time, she did not lose her voice during that phase. According to her, no doctor told her that she won’t be able to sing again.
After three months of bed rest, Mangeshkar was all set to sing again and it was composer Hemant Kumar who got to work with her first. He reportedly sought permission from Lata Mangeshkar’s mother first if he can record a song with a promise that he will not cause any pain to her.
Lata Mangeshkar celebrated her 92nd birthday on September 28.
