Pushpa: The Rise movie review highlights: Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna’s film is a massy ride so far – Times of India

After a long wait, movie buffs finally got the opportunity to watch their favourite star on-screen when Sukumar‘s Pushpa: The Rise hit screens.

Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna (mostly the former) lead the show in this action drama that revolves around red sandalwood smuggling in Seshachalam. Pushpa Raj (Allu Arjun) is a coolie who’s slowly rising in ranks in the world of red sandalwood smuggling. He goes from being one of many in Seshachalam who chop down trees and sell them by the kilo to the big-wigs to the one giving smuggling ideas to Konda Reddy (Ajay Ghosh). Srivalli (Rashmika Mandanna) is the girl he falls for but before that he must not just face off DSP Govindappa but also handle his friction with Jolly Reddy (Dhananjay).

The first half of Pushpa takes it’s own sweet time setting up the character of Pushpa Raj as a man who doesn’t believe in bowing his head to anyone. He might often be called ‘coolie vada’ but his mindset helps him stay above it all. Sukumar pens a massy tale that’s engaging and keeps you hooked as long as the story sticks to the bigger tale at hand. The VFX might not be picture perfect but it doesn’t take long to get lost in this tale filled with men looking to show each other up, with Mangalam Srinu (Sunil) being a huge player in it all.

Samantha’s special number Oo Antava Oo Oo Antava apart from Srivalli seem placed just to soften things in a testosterone filled film. With things coming to a head right before the interval, it remains to be seen how the second half will fare.
