83 box office early estimates: Ranveer Singh starrer takes a hit as collections drop further on Tuesday – Times of India

Just as the industry started celebrating the huge box-office successes of the Hollywood film ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home‘, the Allu Arjun-starrer ‘Pushpa: Part I‘, and the much-hyped release of the Ranveer Singh-led Kabir Khan film, ’83, the Delhi government’s order on Tuesday shutting down cinema theatres and multiplexes has come as a big jolt.

The decision came after the Covid-19 rate in the capital rose alarmingly to 0.55 per cent on Sunday and 0.68 per cent on Monday. It was a part of its yellow alert drill under the Covid Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

At the box office, Ranveer’s ’83 (Hindi) saw a drop in collections on Tuesday. The film that was off to a slow start on Monday with Rs 7 crore, dropped further to Rs 6 crore nett on Tuesday, thus taking its 5-day total to an estimated Rs 57.50 crore nett.

With cinemas in Delhi expected to roll down the shutters again this week, it remains to be seen if the film can float through with collections coming in from other sectors.

Reports on boxofficeindia.com state that the loss in business in Delhi city will be compensated by the fact that ‘Jersey’ will not be releasing this week leaving ’83 with no competition for its screen apart from the films currently running.

Trade experts predict that the film may just have a better second weekend, considering that it will have little competition at the box office until the SS Rajamouli starrer ‘RRR’ hits theatres on January 7.
