According to Nielsen Korea, while the second last episode of ‘Snowdrop’ marked a nationwide rating of 2.8 percent, the finale one recorded 3.5 percent. This is the closest to ‘Snowdrop’s second episode that had received a 3.9 percent average rating in South Korea. Notably, the alleged controversial plot of the series contributed to the viewership numbers.
For the unversed, the period drama was previously under fire for alleged ‘distortion of historical facts’. It was believed that the pilot episode that saw Jisoo’s character mistakenly saving a spy against the pro-democracy movement, and even playing a historically significant song used to symbolize the pro-democracy movement. This did not go down too well with the audience and soon the show faced severe backlash on the internet.
This was also followed by a public petition demanding cancellation of the show for allegedly romanticizing and featuring the male lead as a spy being mistaken as a pro-democratic figure.
Apart from ‘Snowdrop’, it’s also TV Chosun’s ‘Uncle’ that wrapped up on an average nationwide rating of 7.8 percent. It’s followed by ‘Bulgasal: Immortal Souls’ which is near its last episode with a slight increase in average nationwide rating of 3.7 percent in the country.
On the other hand, ‘Young Lady and Gentleman’ maintained a steady average nationwide rating of 32.6 percent. It stars Ji Hyun Woo, Lee Se Hee and Cha Hwa Yeon.
