Bhagyashree fondly reminisces Lata Mangeshkar: I feel blessed that she sang for ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’ – Times of India

The country is mourning the demise of the Nightingale of India, who has left behind a plethora of iconic songs and priceless musical moments. Fondly reminiscing memories of Lata Mangeshkar, Bollywood actress Bhagyashree shares, “She sang for ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’ but our bond goes back to when we were kids. She hailed from Sangli and had very close relations with my father. She had even sung a couple of songs from my father, who was a music director at that point of time. And when she did sing for ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’, it was something that every newcomer at that point of time would have wished for, to have a voice like hers commemorate and make each song special. At that point of time when she was at her peak, to sing for the newcomer is a very big thing. I feel absolutely blessed and lucky to have her voice in my song and the whole nation is going to mourn the death of the nightingale.”

Ask her for the fondest memory of Lata Mangeshkar and Bhagyashree adds, “I think the best thing that could have happened is when she sang for ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’. And I remember Sooraj ji telling me that, after she heard the songs, she told him ‘Main sab gaane gaaungi’. For something like that to happen, I think it was wonderful. And, I believe that she sang most of the songs in one particular day.”

Lata Mangeshkar motivated a generation of singers with her inspirational journey spanning seven glorious decades. In real life, this iconic singer was all about simplicity and shed her legendary status whenever she met someone. “She led a very simple life. I remember her telling my dad that she likes ‘varan bhaat’. It is very simple food and she relished that a lot. I remember my dad telling me that ‘varan bhaat’ is something that has to be made when Lata ji comes home,” signs off Bhagyashree, after nominating ‘Kabootar Jaa Jaa’ and ‘Dil Deewana’ as her favourite songs of the legendary singer.
