Throwback: When Maanayata addressed rumours about not being accepted by Sanjay Dutt’s family – Times of India

Sanjay Dutt and Maanayata are celebrating 13 years of togetherness today. The couple got married on February 11, 2008 and in the past decade has braved several personal battles. Initially, rumours were rife that Maanayata has not found acceptance with Dutt’s family.

Clarifying the air, the actress had told IANS in an interview, “I know people say these things, but what I want to say is that I have the right to live with my husband the way I want to. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a prostitute or a princess, a wife has certain rights in her husband’s home. I’m not a man living in a woman’s house. Sanju knows I’ve tried to do as much as possible in my capacity to find acceptance with his sisters. Beyond that, he wouldn’t like me to push myself to try any further. Neither would I.” Sanjay Dutt and Maanayata welcomed twins Shahraan and Iqra in October 2010.

In 2020, Sanjay Dutt faced a massive health scare when he was diagnosed with cancer. The actor’s sister Priya Dutt and wife Maanayata were constantly by his side all through his treatment. After successfully undergoing treatment, Dutt had shared in an emotional message, “The last few weeks were a very difficult time for my family and me. But as they say, God gives the hardest battles to his strongest soldiers. And today, on the occasion of my kids’ birthday, I am happy to come out victorious from this battle and be able to give them the best gift I can–the health and well-being of our family.”
