Amidst the growing debate about the film based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in 1990, an old tweet and a photo of the director has resurfaced and gone viral. The tweet from 2012 saw the director praying in front of the Jama Masjid.
“At Jama masjid. #Freedom,” he had captioned the post.
The movie that is on its way to the Rs 50 crore mark, has been declared tax-free in several BJP-ruled states.
Following the success of the film, the director revealed his plans to make a series on the subject. “We have so much material that we can produce a series. All accounts are heart-wrenching ones. These are human stories… We are thinking about it… We will come out with a series,” he told PTI.
Meanwhile, in the Lok Sabha, Ladakh BJP MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal said, “The film is exposing a bitter truth and hence, it should be exempted from the tax.”
On Tuesday evening, ministers and legislators of the ruling coalition in Assam will reportedly watch the film, while in Karnataka, Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri announced that it will be screened for legislators.
The Madhya Pradesh government has said policemen in the state will be provided leave to watch the film.
The film stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi.
