Exclusive! Here’s what Yami Gautam has to say about reuniting with husband Aditya Dhar after ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ – Times of India

Actress Yami Gautam recently wowed everyone with her stellar performance in ‘A Thursday’. The film was released on an OTT platform and also starred Neha Dhupia and Atul Kulkarni in key roles. Recently, ETimes got in an exclusive conversation with Yami as she celebrated the success of her film. While interacting, the actress spoke about her husband and filmmaker Aditya Dhar, and revealed when fans can expect her to reunite with him for another project.

Yami featured in ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ which was directed by Aditya. The film also had Vicky Kaushal and Kirti Kulhari. Post the film, the duo went into a relationship and eventually ended up marrying last year during the lockdown.

On being asked if Aditya gives any inputs to her while she chooses any script, she said that she goes by her gut when she signs any project. But she also said that the couple discusses things at home. Yami shared, “Choosing scripts is a very different process. That’s something which I go by on my own, that’s how it’s always been with me, right from my first film. I go by my gut, I need to see how excited I feel by reading the script as an actor and as an audience, both and the director, because finally you are trusting somebody, and then how pivotal is your part to the story, how much of substance do you hold in the story. So all these things. But when it comes to any suggestions and discussions, yes, absolutely! We discuss. It’s not just about only getting stuck somewhere, but anything. We enjoy watching films, any and every kind of film and genre. No matter how tired we are, and we’ve had our own respective commitments, but the day mostly ends with watching something good, because we both enjoy it.”

The actress further also said that Aditya has never read any of her scripts but he is ‘aware’ of them. She added, “Aditya’s (Dhar) mind and his ideas and his imagination of possibilities, that’s extremely inspiring for me as an actor to hear, that’s extremely fascinating for me to hear. And with cinema or the kind of industry that we are in, and the profession that I’m in, as much as I keep my mind open to ideas, to different possibilities, it’s going to help me in my work. So he has never read any of my scripts but he is aware. This healthy discussion only helps me become a better actor and keep working on my perspective, keep broadening that horizon and that vision.”

When we asked her about her next collaboration with Aditya as fans are quite excited to see them working together, Yami happily replied, “It’s a very sweet expectation (smiles) and he’s definitely for me… Of course, we got married later, but yeah, as strictly as actor and director, he was one of those directors in 2019, who had faith in me and who felt that, ‘Okay, never seen Yami in that kind of role, and I’d like to give her (the role in ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike)’. And Amar Kaushik also with ‘Bala‘… I know the kind of films Aditya is working on, and I think I myself can’t wait for those films to come out soon for you all to see. But as far as your question is concerned, you just never know! I’ve never said anything before my producers and directors. So whenever something like that happens, of course, you would know!”

Yami will be next seen in ‘Oh My God 2’, ‘Lost’ and ‘Dasvi’. She also has one unannounced project.
