Talking about what changed his mind, he told Ranveer Allahbadia, “I have been a smoker on and off but now for a few years, I haven’t smoked. I think Kabir Singh kind of did it for me,” and laughed out saying that he was done after the film as he played the on-screen character who suffered from drugs and alcohol abuse problems. He was seen as a chain smoker who suffered from anger issues in the film.

Shahid used to smoke almost 20 cigarettes a day for the film. He had previously told Mumbai Mirror, “I don’t endorse smoking at all. However, the role required it, as the protagonist uses it to channel his angst and rage. It wasn’t easy, and it came to a point where I smoked almost 20 cigarettes a day. It would take me close to two hours to shower and get rid of the smells before I could return home to my children.”

Shahid is now waiting for the release of his forthcoming film ‘Jersey’. The film will debut in theatres on April 22 after winning the plagiarism case against it.

‘Jersey’ is Shahid’s first film to release after the success of ‘Kabir Singh’. Talking about selecting the film script, he told a new agency, “After I did ‘Kabir Singh’, I wanted to find a story which can give the audience a complete experience. People do come with expectations after you have given them an experience that stays with them, which ‘Kabir Singh’ was. I have worked very hard to find a subject which had the emotional potential and the story to stay true to people’s expectations.”
