When Rituparna was called Shah Rukh Khan’s female version of ‘Chak De! India’! – Times of India

Rituparna Sengupta played a grooming guru in Sunanda Shyamal Mitra’s Hindi film ‘Extraordi-naari’ which released in 2015. And such was the depth of the role that the director had compared Rituparna’s character with Shah Rukh Khan’s character in ‘Chak De! India’.

The film revolves around a grooming guru, Taniya (Rituparna) and deals with the cutthroat competition in the modeling world. Giving an insight into the storyline, Sunanda had once said in an interview, “Taniya is a well-known grooming guru, who has been in the business for long. Every year, she grooms 10 models, who goes on to compete in a pageant. But this time around, she loses to her contemporary Ryan. A business tycoon now, Ryan was an aspiring model when Taniya had entered the world of glamour. He buys out people involved in the competition, leaving Taniya heartbroken. She goes away only to return with a bang. For the next edition of the pageant, she will be seen grooming 10 women, who are victims of social injustice. I would call it the female version of ‘Chak De! India’ that unfolds in the backdrop of the modeling industry. Rituparna is like Shah Rukh Khan in the film.”

While Sunanda cast Satyajit Sharma as Ryan, Shahbaaz Khan was also seen in another important role in the film playing a gritty politician, who lends support to Taniya.

Although the film had an interesting storyline it tanked at the box office while receiving poor reviews from critics.
