‘Modern Love: Mumbai’: ‘Was over the moon when Ram Sampath got in touch for Raat Rani song,’ says Nikhita Gandhi | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

After her chartbuster song, ‘She’s On Fire’ in ‘Dhaakad’, Nikhita Gandhi is garnering praise from all sides for her soulful song, ‘Raat Rani’ from ‘Modern Love: Mumbai’. In an exclusive interview with ETimes, the young singer shared her experience working with Ram Sampath, exploring the digital space and her dream collaboration. Excerpts…
Your song ‘Raat Rani’ from ‘Modern Love: Mumbai’ has been receiving a positive response…
Firstly, I would like to say Ram Sampath is somebody I have always admired and one of my favourite songs of his is ‘Kattey’ from Coke Studio, which incidentally is also part of my setlist even though it’s not a mainstream song. I’m a big fan of that song and Ram Sampath. Honestly, when he got in touch with me to work on this song I was over the moon and very excited. It feels great to be in the OG album of ‘Modern Love: Mumbai’.

How was it working with Ram Sampath?
Amazing! We recorded the song remotely, so we had discussed the brief virtually and I sent across my takes. We met on set for the music video and I cannot even describe how exhilarating it was to meet him. I always wanted to work with him and it was great to know that he wanted to work with me too. It’s awesome to have such good feedback from some of my biggest idols.
Opportunities for singers and musicians are also opening up on OTT. What are your thoughts on the same?
It’s definitely a new world with OTT exploding in the market currently. One thing I really admire about ‘Modern Love Mumbai’ is that they have given importance to the album, as sometimes good songs tend to get lost by not making it to the promotions. But I am really happy that the OTT platform is making an effort to give importance to the music of the show. I am really happy, because it has some incredible soundtracks by emerging and of course veteran artists.

Who would your dream collaboration be with?
To be very honest, I think a lot of my dreams have come true as I started my career with AR Rahman Sir, Pritam and Tanishk, Ram Sampath and Badshah and so many others. And now I guess I should just be greedy and keep adding more names to this list! Jokes apart, I am grateful for my journey and truly humble because starting without a list I have managed to work with some of my biggest idols.
Name one recent song you are hooked to…
I am hooked on ‘Oboseshe’ from ‘Kishmish’, my latest Bangla film.
