RJ Balaji: I asked Sathyaraj to act like he did in a 90s film for ‘Veetla Visesham’ – Exclusive! – Times of India

RJ Balaji has made his debut into acting and directing in Tamil cinema and has given two hits – ‘LKG’ and ‘Mookuthi Amman’. Playing the lead role in his third film ‘Veetla Visesham’ which is scheduled for release on June 17, the actor has also co-directed the film. In an exclusive interview with ETimes, RJ Balaji opens up about how he as a filmmaker witnessed the top actors of the industry perform each and every scene spectacularly.

‘Veetla Visesham’ has Sathyaraj, Lalitha and Urvashi in its cast. Director and actor RJ Balaji praising the three veteran actors stated that he felt gifted as a director to work with them. He said, “The movie had amazing actors and actresses, Lalitha who is no more with us today, but acted with us, Urvashi ma’am and Sathyaraj sir who are legendary actors in the field for the past 4 decades, I have to say that I was gifted as a director; and as an actor I was lucky to hide behind all of them to not show my weakness.”

Speaking about the director’s delight, RJ Balaji said that he loved directing Sathyaraj in the film. Citing the incident when he met Sathyaraj on day one of shooting, RJ Balaji said that he wanted Sathyaraj to bring out a character role that he played in the 90s in the film ‘En Bommu Kutti Ammavuku’. “If you ask me who is my favourite, I will say Urvashi ma’am as I have a good rapport with her as I had already worked with her in ‘Mookuthi Amman’ and I know how to cooperate with her well. But when it comes to director delight, I will say I loved Sathyaraj sir, because it will not just be me but to every director, as the veteran actor would be always punctual and would always be ready for retakes as well and would not got angry or annoyed on the sets let it be either on camera or off camera,” RJ Balaji said. He added that Sathyaraj is a dedicated and passionate actor and has stayed the same for the past 40 years in the film industry.
