Huma Qureshi wraps up Tarla Dalal biopic; says, ‘The film truly holds a special place in my heart’ – Exclusive – Times of India

Actress Huma Qureshi, who recently made a lot of noise with her special song in Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, has stepped into the shoes of India’s first-ever home chef, Tarla Dalal. She announced the film in April this year, and she has now wrapped up the shoot in just 37 days.

A source close to the development informed ETimes that Huma’s last day of filming was the wedding sequence. Huma has put her heart and soul to play the character of Tarla. Before the film went on the floor, she would wear the dentures for long hours and practice speaking with them to make sure she was comfortable as she knew that the camera would pinpoint even the slightest hint of effort or discomfort. As part of her prep, Huma also devoured hours of footage, picking up on Tarla Dalal’s accent, pitch, and mannerisms.

Calling it a ‘special’ role, Huma told ETimes, “Tarla Dalal’s journey has definitely left an impression on my soul. It truly holds a special place in my heart. As I wrap the film, I cannot help but think of the quiet strength, love, humour and empathy she had. I cannot wait for everyone to watch this one.”

Back in April, Huma shared the news along with the first look. Fans were highly impressed with her transformation.

On the work front, Huma also has ‘Double XL’ with Sonakshi Sinha. Directed by Satramm Ramani, the film that talks about body-shaming, has been co-produced by Huma, her actor brother Saqib Saleem and others.
