Baz Luhrman: Tom Hanks can easily be known as the Amitabh Bachchan of America – Times of India

Back in 2013, Baz Luhrman’s ‘The Great Gatsby’ was a massive success reaching audiences all across the globe. The film was widely appreciated in India too, especially due to Amitabh Bachchan’s cameo and him sharing the screen space with Leonardo Di Caprio.

Speaking about the same, Luhrman told NDTV that he misses Amitabh Bachchan so much and that they are in touch. Comparing his performance with Tom Hanks, he shared, both of them are very similar and that ‘Tom Hanks’ can easily be known as the Amitabh Bachchan of America. Revisiting ‘The Great Catsby’ he recollected a moment between Bachchan and Leonardo – a quiet chat, where Leonardo felt that he was listening to the wisdom.

As Baz gears up for his next ‘Elvis’, he says Tom Hanks did exactly the same for Austin Butler who portrays the role of Elvis Presley in the film. “It’s so touching and so rare when an older actor is passing the baton to the new generation.” He further added, “not just Tom, Amitabh Bachchan in my view is not only the Elvis of India but also the Marlon Brando of India.”
