ETimes caught up with the actress for an exclusive interview where she spilled the beans on the overwhelming’ reactions she has been getting for the film and more. Excerpts…

What attracted you to this film?

I have always been a fan of filmmaker Gajendra Ahire’s work. But never got a chance to work with him before ‘Dear Molly’. I feel that he has a very interesting take on life through his films. Secondly, I and Aalok Rajwade have been together for years. But we have never been put in a situation together where we have played as a couple. So, that was very exciting. We wanted to explore other characters with each other.

Go On…

I have never played such a character before. Anita (Mrinmayee), is a very simple woman for whom her family is her life. She doesn’t have a life beyond that. The vulnerability of the character begins when her husband goes to a foreign country to fulfil his ambitions. I have never played the role of a mother, the responsibility of a child is something that I have never experienced in real life.

How different or similar is ‘Anita’ from Mrinmayee

On the face of it, it’s completely different that the kind of person. I have obviously, been through similar situations and emotions. In the film, Anita is seen making choices for herself. It is something that I try to do in my life.

How difficult is it to play versatile characters and not repeat your performance?

As an actor, I would love to put on all the masks that there are put on. I would love to portray any characters. If someone challenges me to portray a male character, I would like to do that as well. The character should challenge me and excite me. I want to do work that challenges me.

There is a surge of female-oriented content on OTT. What are your thoughts on it as an actor?

I think it should be a lot more. There should be more female writers and directors. There should be many more stories that need to be told.
