How did ‘Chaiyaan Main Saiyaan Ki’ happen?
I have been working on different projects with Naresh Sharma ji (Mithoon’s father) and it included releases like ‘Befikar Dil’, ‘Parchai’, ‘Lo Keh Diya’ and others. Over the years, Mithoon sir had been observing my vocal abilities and improvements and one fine day he called me to try out the song, ‘Chaiyaan Main Saiyaan Ki’. To my good fortune, he liked my rendition and here we are talking about it.
How was your experience singing for Vidyut Jammwal?
Vidyut Bhai is an action hero in a true sense. It is a very heartwarming experience to be a part of his movie.
You have co-sung the song with Asees Kaur. What are your thoughts on her as a singer?
Asees is a very good singer. She truly has a gifted voice and one cannot praise her enough for her singing prowess. IT really feels wonderful sharing the space with her.
Singers and composers are also getting ample opportunities on OTT. How do you see this change as an artist?
Yes, it’s truly a very conducive environment now for singers and composers. Apart from movies, these well-recognised platforms give talented artists more than a few avenues to prove their mettle.
Is there any recent composition that impressed you immensely?
I really like my ‘Chaiyaan Main Saiyaan Ki’ and apart from that, ‘Phir Na Aisi Raat’ from the Aamir Khan starrer ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’.
The era of the ’90s had some great music. What’s your view on the pop music scene now?
Great music exists even now. We just need to recognise those songs. They are good but just don’t have the luxury of heavy publicity.
The sudden demise of ace singers like Lata Mangeshkar, Bappi Da and KK this year has left a void in the music industry…
Lata Mangeshkar ji and Bappi da had achieved everything in their lives. They are timeless. The demise of KK was very disturbing. It’s an irreparable loss for the entire industry.
