Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’ DOP Amit Roy quits; says, “Raju Hirani and I had creative differences” – Exclusive – Times of India

Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’, which has Taapsee Pannu as the female lead, has created quite a few ripples of excitement with its teaser where SRK and the film’s director Rajkumar Hirani were involved in a banter of sorts. Well, as you know, the film has gone on floors and reportedly the first schedule has wrapped up. But did you know that the film had a small hiccup when its DOP (Director of Photography/ Cinematographer) Amit Roy said goodbye to the unit?

Amit Roy who has shot films like ‘Love Aajkal 2’, ‘Sarkar’ and ‘Sarkar Raj’, says, “Yes, I am not doing ‘Dunki’ anymore. I shot for 18-19 days and quit. Raju Hirani and I had some creative differences. We both couldn’t see from the same angle. But let me tell you that the parting was very amicable. We both sat down and then I quit. Honestly, I didn’t want it to reach a stage of friction.”

Roy further said that he respects Hirani a lot and it is just unfortunate that they couldn’t be on the same page. “It happens sometimes. I had shot a song in ‘Sanju’ for Hirani- the ‘Baba Bolta Hai Bas Ho Gaya’ song. We had a great time then. I have also done a few ads for him. But you see, an ad is a collaborative effort wherein the client’s vision also matters. But when it comes to a film, it is the director’s vision.”

Will the scenes that Roy shot be retained or reshot? Roy replied, “They will be retained.”

Post the departure of Roy, ETimes has it that Pankaj came in as a stop-gap arrangement. Post Pankaj, C K Muraleedharan took over; Murli (as C K Muraleedharan is fondly called in the industry) has worked with Hirani on ‘PK’, ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’.
