Sanjay Dutt on National Award winning film Toolsidas Junior: I will never forgive the producers, they should have released it on the big screen – Exclusive – Times of India

Rajiv Kapoor’s final film, Toolsidas Junior has just bagged the Best Hindi Film honour at the 68th National Film Awards. Produced by Ashutosh Gowariker and directed by Mridul Toolsidas, the film also featured Sanjay Dutt in a prominent role. In conversation with ETimes, during the promotions of his recent film Shamshera, Dutt had expressed that he was unhappy with the film’s producers.

ETimes had asked Sanjay Dutt about his association with Rajiv Kapoor’s final film and a visibly emotional Dutt had exclaimed, “I will never forgive Mr Ashutosh Gowarikar and T-Series for them to release it on OTT, they should have waited and seen it on big screen”. Dutt was making a strong case for the theatrical release of the movie, considering its emotional subject and it’s relevance being Rajiv Kapoor’s final performance.

Now that the film has won top honours as a Hindi film at the National Film Awards 2020, it goes to prove that the subject and story of the film had potential to reach a wider audience with a theatrical release. Going by Dutt’s passionate revelation, there might still be an outside chance of the film returning and releasing in theatres. We’ll keep our fingers crossed and hope the producers are able to pull it off.
