According to the latest reports on Page Six, the actress’ lawyers were desperate to serve Pitt with a subpoena that they even sent a man with documents to confront the actor at the 2022 SAG Awards, with the hope of catching him off guard. An insider told the portal that the team was ready to try again at the Oscars, but Pitt’s lawyers called off the chase.
The portal states that the legal team was having a hard time trying to hand Pitt the papers and pinned their hope on his return to the awards show even though he was not nominated for an award this year. The actor, who had taken home a trophy last year, did not turn up at the event.
The report further adds that Jolie’s legal team was trying to subpoena Pitt to hand over records and correspondence related to the French Chateau, where they tied the knot. The former couple, who parted ways in September 2016, have since been locked in a bitter divorce battle over ownership of the business after Jolie sold her shares.
Pitt sued Jolie for selling her stake of the winery saying that she had broken their agreement. The couple allegedly agreed not to sell their interests in Chateau Miraval without the other’s consent.
Pitt, claimed that he had “poured money and sweat equity” into making Miraval among the world’s most highly regarded makers of rose wine, with annual revenue exceeding $50 million, the complaint said.
However, a judge ruled that Pitt and his business partners must turn over the papers. The actor and his camp can still appeal.
Had Jolie served Pitt a subpoena at the awards show, it would have been part of a trendy celebrity tactic. Olivia Wilde was memorably served with legal documents relating to her custody battle with ex-partner Jason Sudeikis. The actress was handed the documents while giving a speech on stage during a CinemaCon event.
