According to reports, she suffered a major heart attack at around 12.05 am and was rushed to a nearby nursing home, where the Bengali singer was declared dead.

Born in 1938 in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, Nirmala Mishra has a number of prestigious awards in her repertoire including the Sangeet Sudhakar Balakrushna Das Award, which was conferred on the singer for her lifetime contribution to Odia music. She also received Banga Bibhushan, Sangeet Samman and several other prestigious awards for her contribution to Bengali music.
