‘Khufiya’ is a story of a R&AW operative-Krishna Mehra played by Tabu, who is assigned a crucial mission which leaves her juggling between her dual identity as a spy and a lover. The film is inspired by true events and based on the popular espionage novel Escape to Nowhere by Amar Bhushan. The filmmaker had earlier said that he flipped the gender of the protagonist, originally a male character in Bhushan’s 2012 book, because he didn’t find it “exciting” enough.
“Khufiya is a spy thriller about the internal ongoings at the Research and Analysis wing and a story about one agent getting to the bottom of things while navigating her personal and professional identity. We cannot wait for fans to see Tabu in action alongside Ali Fazal, Wamiqa Gabbi and Ashish Vidyarthi,” the makers said at the event.
Vishal Bhardwaj and Tabu’s have earlier collaborated on films like ‘Haider’ and ‘Maqbool’ which were big hits.
