“It’s an amazing time right now, where we need to break away from the typical way of looking at artists and cinema. I think it’s a great time right now, where all these barriers have gone down. People know our cinema Nationally. In fact, they are wanting to see the cinema from every part,” Aishwarya shared. Interestingly, while Aishwarya is a popular face in Bollywood, the actres shad marked her acting debut with Mani Ratnam’s Tamil drama ‘Iruvar’ (1997).
With ‘Ponniyin Selvan: I’, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will reunite with her guru aka Mani Ratnam. Speaking about the same, Aishwarya had previously shared, “I worked in my first film with Mani garu, who is my guru. I regard myself blessed that I got the opportunity to start my journey as an actor working with him. He’s the perfect guru. I didn’t come with any formal training, I just dived in and got to work with him. But experience is the best teacher. It’s spiritual and divine. We always talk about the foundation and approach to work, the work ethics and the way you focus on the art and the creativity itself and not the peripherals because that goes with the turf and isn’t the focal point in your creative journey. And what better place for me to have begun my approach to my craft than with Mani sir!” ‘Ponniyin Selvan: I’ is inspired from Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel by the same name. The film features Aishwarya in the role of Nandini, a Pazhuvoor queen and Mandakini Devi. ‘Ponniyin Selvan: I’ is scheduled to hit the screens on September 30.
